A Journalist's Instincts. A Strategist's Perspective.
Meet Diana
Diana Rubio is the founder and principal strategist of Rubio Storytelling Communications, a boutique strategic communications firm known for narrative leadership, newsroom instincts, and high-level counsel during moments that shape public perception and trust.
A former broadcast journalist with ABC, NBC, and CBS affiliates in California and Texas, Diana spent years covering breaking news and reporting under pressure, experiences that sharpened her understanding of how audiences process information, how credibility is built or lost, and how narratives take shape in real time.
She later brought those instincts into public affairs and executive communications, serving as press secretary to the Mayor of Los Angeles before advising mission-driven organizations, executives, and public leaders on communications strategy, media relations, reputation management, and leadership positioning.
Her journalism background continues to shape her approach today. Before becoming a strategist, Diana spent years evaluating information, identifying the stories that mattered most, and understanding what captures attention and earns credibility. That experience helps her see communications not only through the eyes of an organization, but through the eyes of the audiences it hopes to reach. It informs how she helps clients navigate public conversations, build trust, and communicate in ways that resonate beyond a single news cycle.
Diana has helped elevate the visibility and influence of organizations, including the ACLU of Southern California, Common Sense Media, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, JVS SoCal, STEM Prep, and Clínica Romero. Her work spans crisis communications, executive counsel, thought leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic storytelling designed to strengthen public trust and deepen audience connection.
She earned her B.A. in Communications from Wilson College and an M.S. from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she received the prestigious Dean Reynolds Fellowship at ABC News in Washington, D.C.
Diana named the firm Rubio Storytelling Communications because throughout her career in journalism, public affairs, and strategic communications, she has seen how stories influence public understanding, build trust, and shape how people connect with leaders and institutions. She understands that people may forget statistics, talking points, or carefully crafted language, but they rarely forget the stories that made something feel real to them
